A complete guide to Prague weather in October + What to wear
My detailed guide to October weather in Prague, including sunny and rainy days, temperatures, daylight and practical tips on what to wear for your visit to Prague in 2025.
Autumn is my favourite season and Prague is really beautiful, when the leaves on the trees start turning bright red, orange, and yellow, and the air gets cool and crisp. The weather in October is much cooler than September, but in recent years, we’ve also had some very mild days.
If you are thinking of visiting Prague in October, I hope my weather guide will help you to plan the perfect autumn trip to Prague.

What does the weather look like in October?
Most years, Prague and the Czech Republic would have warm autumn, something we also call an ‘Indian Summer’, which can still spill into early few days of October. The temperatures could be as hot as 20 Celsius in the direct sun.
You might also get the odd shower and storm, much like in the summer, but most of the time the weather is balmy and warm during late morning and afternoon.
Early mornings and late nights are starting to get very cold, so bring an extra layer and make sure you have it with you if you are starting your day early or planning to stay out late at night in Prague.
By the middle of October the temperatures are dropping to 5-10 C during the night and 12-15 C during the day. You might get more lovely sunny days in October, but it will feel chilly at the same time and especially when the sun comes down in the evening.
The later part of October also brings more rain and if you are unlucky you might get days when the sky would be grey and permanently cloudy.
October is usually the first month when most homes (or hotels in your case) start to put their heating on in the evening towards the end of the month. If you are renting a self-catering apartment for your Prague holiday, you might want to double check with the owner how to turn the heating on.

Is October a good time to visit Prague weather wise?
I would say, most definitely! The weather is cooling down after usually warm September, but it’s still fine to walk around in a couple of layers and a jacket most days.
Prague is generally a lot quieter in October, because appart from the 28 October (Independence Day) there are no major holidays, it makes it much easier to escape the crowds before the Christmas festive season starts in the second part of November.
The clock goes back in October, which means that at the end of October, you’ll find it’s getting dark at 5 pm. You’ll need to plan your day from 8-9 am – 5pm to get any sunlight and then plan something for the evening, when it gets dark.

Average temperatures in Prague in October
The average temperatures get cooler as the month progresses. Starting with about 15°C (59°F) during a day and 7°C (45°F) during night in the first part of October.
Once we get into the middle of the month, the temperatures drop a little to 12°C (54°F) during day and 5°C (41°F) during night. The end of October is usually much colder with 9°C (48°F) during day and 3°C (37°F) at night.

How to read the local weather forecast
The weather is forecasted in Celsius and the temperatures are given in the shade.
This means, that if the mid day temperature is given as 10 C and it’s forecasted to be sunny, it’s a fair chance that the air will feel much warmer (because of the sun) than 10 C. It can be easily 15 C in the direct sun, and start to feel warmer as the day progresses. The soil is still warm from the summer, so it takes longer for it to go colder at night and keeps radiating heat during the day.
Quite often, the weather forecast will mention something like ’10 C feels like 8 C’, this means that the humidity is much higher than normal and that although the temperature is 10 Celsius it will feel a bit colder than that – so dress for the colder temperature.
Another thing that I always pay attention to, is the hourly temperature forecasts.
It’s all very well knowing that during day it will be 10 C , but if I’m going on a day trip outside Prague and getting up at 5 am, I need to also know that at that time it will be about 3 Celsius and that this temperature will only slowly go up during the day and it will take up to mid day to get to 10 C.
So, again I need to dress for 3 C (and not just for 10 C).

Day light in October
In the morning the sunrise is from 7.02 am at the beginning of the month and from 7.24 am by the middle of October. By the end of October the sunrise moves to 6.50 am, but that’s only because the time changes a few days before the end of October.
The sunset is at 6.41 pm at the beginning of the month, moving towards the 6.11 pm by the middle of the month and to 4.41 at the end of October, which is again because of the time change.
You also have an extra 30 minutes after the sunset when you can easily see and you can carry on exploring the town.
Overall this gives you about 10-11,5 hours of day light each day to plan your activities in Prague, which is still a pretty good amount of time to pack a lot in!

How rainy does it get during October in Prague?
On average, there are around 11- 16 days of rain, but it rarely rains all day. The rain can come for a couple of hours and it could be sunny by the afternoon.
Make sure, you pack an umbrella and second layer, as the rain can make the air feel colder.
Average sun days in October
There is usually a gradual decrease in sunny days as the month progresses. During early October, there is usually around 6-7 sunny days. Moving into mid-October, the number of sunny days decreases slightly to about 4-5 days.
By late October, Prague has the fewest sunny days of the month, averaging around 2-3 days. This pattern reflects the increasing cloud cover and shorter daylight hours, which are normal as the weather changes from early autumn to late autumn.
Does it snow in October?
Snow in Prague during October is very rare. Most years, the end of October is usually the beginning of cooler weather, but if it snows, it’s usually in the mountains and highter regions of the Czech Republic, not in Prague. What you might see in the morning, especially if it’s very cold overnight is hoarfrost – a tiny dew drops frozen on leaves and branches.

What to pack for your visit in October
I often think, October is in between month – right at the beginning I seems to be often wearing just T-shirts with long trousers or even a short walking skirt, because it’s so warm.
By the end of the month, I add extra thin layers and a jacket, but in the afternoon it can be still warm just for one layer, so you never know!
Apart from my general packing advice make sure that you have warmer walking shoes, warm fleece or jumper and a mid light jacket.

I also pack short sleeve T-shirt as sometimes during the day it can get fairly warm. If you are travelling at the beginning of October, it’s usually warm enough to wear a summer dress with tights and a light jacket or linen shirts, trousers or skirts.
I would always carry with me a second thin layer (like a soft hoodie or warm thermal layer with long sleeves) that I can easily put on or take off as I need to.
My favourite travelling combination weather-wise is a thin thermal layer with long sleeves and T-shirt on top. When I’m wearing a dress or a skirt I also take with me thin black leggings, that I can wear in the morning and in the evening when it’s a little cooler.
I also bring a hat or a cap as it gets colder in the evening and the wind could be quite freezing towards the end of the month.
I usually don’t need gloves, but if you feel the cold, you might want to bring some, just in case. I usually wear very thin fingerless gloves when it gets very chilly in the morning or evening.
Umbrella is also handy unless you have a good waterproof rain jacket. Sayin that, umbrella is a lot better to keep you try in a sudden downpour, which can still happen in early October.

If you are planning to do longer day trips, it’s a good idea to bring a good day backpack and and extra layer, hat or extra pair of socks for when the temperature drops in the evening.
If you have an early start you’ll be probably wearing all your warm clothes in the morning too, so you’ll want to have a space in your bag to keep them during the day.
Instead of a water bottle, I often take a hot coffee flask with me on my day trips. I’d still stop for a coffee or tea during the day, but you never know if there is going to be a suitable place open where you are heading.
This is especially useful if you are thinking of travelling further from the centre in the afternoons or weekends.

What does Prague’s nature look like in October?
In October, the nature in Prague is absolutely stunning! The trees are now beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow. It’s like the whole city is painted in warm, bright colours.
The weather is cool and crisp, perfect for wearing cozy sweaters and taking long walks. Sometimes, there’s a bit of fog in the morning, which makes everything look magical and mysterious. Even though it can be rainy, the rain makes the colours of the leaves look even more vibrant and beautiful.
There are lots of parks and gardens in Prague where you can see these amazing colours. For example, places like Petřín Hill and the Royal Gardens under the Prague Castle look like they’re straight out of a picture book. The fallen leaves cover the ground, making it look like a colourful carpet.
I always walk in the Stromovka Park as this park has the most beautiful trees. It has also been landscaped in recent years, with lakes, new paths and pretty wooden benches. I also like Pruhonice Park , because they have so many different types of trees and the chateau makes a great backdrop to the this autumn scenery.
A little hidden gem are the gardens of St.Agnes Monastery (which is now one of the main art galleries in Prague) in the Prague Old Town, where you can find autumn-coloured trees and a tall wall covered with red and yellow leaves as well as unusual sculptures. I always find this place very calming and you can also stop for a coffee at the gallery if it gets too cold.
If you have a little more time, I’d also recommend that you visit Prague ZOO. Not only it is a brilliant ZOO but in autumn it makes the most beautiful and colourful walk in the amazing setting (the ZOO is next to the river in the valley with a steep rocks, trees and bushes).
