A complete guide to weather in March 2026 + What to wear
I think that March is a great time to come and visit Prague since it’s starting to get warmer with each week and we finally get more daylight as the days get longer, especially after the day light changing, which this year is on 29 March 2026.
I love walking around Prague in March, especially during the cherry and apple blossom season, which is from mid to late March and it’s also amazing to see the almond trees blossoming in the Petrin Hill gardens, usually towards the end of the March.
I also find that, Prague is also a lot less busy in March than in later spring or summer, so it’s a perfect time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds.

What’s the weather like in March in Prague?
Although the weather is much warmer than in January and February, don’t bring your summer clothes just yet! The winter weather in Prague can often last until mid March and it’s often very cold, with plenty of rain and wind.
It’s not that common these days, but the snow can fall anytime until Easter, so it’s better to be ready and have extra layers with you.
The night temperatures can be still very cold and easily below zero. On average this could be -1 – 0C or slightly above, say 1-3 C in March.
Even when the temperatures are slightly higher during day (if you are lucky this can be up to 10-14 C) it’s usually very cold (around 0 C) very early in the morning. And it also takes most of the day to get to that 10-14 C, which means that the warmest part of the day is not until late afternoon.

At the beginning of the month this is about 7 C during the day with temperatures as low as -1 or -2 C during night.

When the sun is shining it can be pleasantly warm, but when it’s not it’s still pretty cold.

How does the weather change during March in Prague?
In my experience, the weather is getting warmer and warmer as you progress through March.
The difference between the beginning and the end of each month can be easily few degrees, which can easily mean that at the beginning of March you still need to wear your winter clothes and by the end of March you can get away with lighter layers and even just a long t-shirt with a jumper during the day.
Mornings and evenings are always chilli (mornings a lot more!), so extra warm layers (like a thin down jacket) are needed.

How to read the local weather forecast
The local weather forecast uses Celsius (not Fahrenheit) and the temperature given is measured (or predicted) in the shade. This means that if the weather forecast mentions 10 C, it can be easily 15 C in the sun.
This is quite a big difference, so if you see anything over 10 C in a weather forecast, you know that the weather will be pleasantly warm (ish…) and you might not even need a hat!
The soil is still warming up from the winter, so it takes longer for it to get warmer during the day, but then you get a little warmer evenings even when the sun goes down.
Quite often, the weather forecast will mention something like ’10 C feels like 8 C’, this means that the humidity is much higher than normal and that although the temperature is 10 Celsius it will feel a bit colder than that – so dress for the colder temperature.
Another thing that I always pay attention to, is the hourly temperature forecasts.
It’s all very well knowing that during day it will be 10 C , but if I’m going on a day trip outside Prague and getting up at 5 am, I need to also know that at that time it will be about 3 Celsius and that this temperature will only slowly go up during the day and it will take up to mid day or late afternoon to get to 10 C.
So, again I need to dress for 3 C (and not just for 10 C).

The average rain fall in Prague during March
The average rainfall in Prague during March is usually moderate and it’s around 27 millimetres (1.06 inches).
The rain is typically spread over (on average) 16 days throughout the month. Although this sounds like it’s raining most of the time, these are usually light rain shower (and it’s certainly not as rainy as in April or May).
Unless there is a whole day forecasted as rain, I usually don’t change my plans, because often these light rains are localised and over in 1-2 hrs. In my experience, as long as you have a good umbrella you can carry on exploring the city without any problems. Plus you can always add more visits to the local cafes, museums and art galleries for those few rainy hours.

Day light in March
The sunrise is between 6.44 am and 6.40 am and the sunset is between 5.43 pm and 7.32 pm during march with nearly extra 30 minutes after the sunset when you can see the light. There is not much difference in the sunrise time as the end of the March is the daylight saving and the clock changes.
I’ve taken the above photo of Charles Bridge on one very cold March morning and was so glad that I didn’t need to get up as early as in the summer!
The good thing is that as the march progresses, you get more and more daylight from about 11 hrs to 13 hrs, which is great if you are planning a day trip outside Prague or a longer walk.
The daylight saving and time changes on 29 March 2026 and the clock will go forward (so you’ll lose one hour of sleep).
At the beginning of the month

Average sun days in March
There is usually a gradual increase in sunny days as the month progresses. During first part of March, there is usually around 4-5 sunny days. Moving into later March, the number of sunny days increases slightly to about 5-6 days.
This gradual increase in sunshine is due to the lengthening days and the intensifying solar radiation as the spring equinox approaches.

What does Prague’s nature look like in March?
In March the ground is starting to warm up and whilst most plants and trees are still in a dormant state, it’s starting to get warmer after usually cold winter weather.
At the beginning of the month you will usually see everything bare – no leaves, no flowers, just a few spring flowers that will start to come out.
Things usually start to change towards the middle and the end of March, when you’ll see the cheery tree blossom and then apple trees and other fruit trees flowering.

Spring hay fever allergies
If you suffer from hay fever allergies, then beginning to middle of March should be still relative safe for you. Because it’s still cold, nothing flowers yet, but as the weather gets warmer towards the middle to end of the month, flowers, trees and grasses start to flower.
Prague parks and gardens are always well maintained, which means that the grass is regularly cut and the weeds taken out. Most parks and gardens, therefore should be fine for you to visit if you suffer from mild hay fever caused by grass, but do be prepared to have an alternative plan in case there are flowering plants or trees that are too strong for you.
If you forget your hay fever medication, or need some, any pharmacy will be able to help you. Not all pharmacists speak English, but if you visit a large pharmacy like the one in the Main Train Station, they might have staff on duty who speak English. Most hay fever medication is also international, so you might recognise the type of medication you normally take.
In Czech hay fever is ‘senna ryma’, in case you need to make yourself understood in Czech.

What to pack for your visit in March
I get always over excited with spring coming, pack very lightly and then regret it on the first cold morning!
This is especially true when I’m visiting in early March, when the temperatures can hover still around 1-3 C or even slightly bellow 0 C in the morning.
I often take lighter winter jacket and have 1-2 layers underneath and sometimes end up taking the jacket off during the day (when it gets a bit warmer). I still wear a hat and thin finger gloves and a scarf most days, especially early in the morning.
I always recommend to wear thinner layers, rather than one thick woolly jumper, because the temperature can change quite a bit during the day and especially if there is a nice sun.
Comfortable walking shoes, good waterproof jacket or umbrella, warm layers will always be welcomed, and I would pack a warm fleece hat, scarf and gloves too, just in case.
By the end of March the weather does get noticeably warmer, so a spring jacket (shower or waterproof ) is best with some warm layers and a thin hat or gloves as it can still be chilly in the morning and evening.
Although it’s usually quite cold in the mornings and evenings, the middle of the day is quite often sunny, so a good pair of sunglasses is always a good idea.
Because I do a lot of walking in Prague (and in the countryside) I usually just stick to a pair of comfy trainers or padded shoes as Prague’s cobbled streets can be quite hard to walk on.
