A complete guide to Prague weather in April 2026 + What to wear
I think that April is a great time to come and visit Prague since it’s starting to get much warmer with each week and we finally get more daylight as the days get longer, especially after the day light changing at the end of March.
I love walking around Prague in April, especially during the cherry and apple blossom season, which is from late March to mid (or end of April) and it’s also amazing to see the almond trees blossoming in the Petrin Hill gardens, usually at the beginning of April. The trees are finally getting some new green leaves, so the streets and parks are starting to look more cheerful after long winter.
I also find that, Prague is also a lot less busy in April than in later spring or summer, so it’s a perfect time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds.

The only time when it’s busier than usual is during the Easter time, which this year is in the middle of April, so the Easter markets are on during the whole April. From about 2-3 weeks before Easter, you can start seeing decorations going up everywhere the traditional Easter Markets start at least 10 days before Easter and stay open afterwards too. There are also plenty of events to celebrate the Easter traditions and the spring.
Whilst the top Prague attractions stay open all year round, some smaller museums and galleries only properly open or extend their hours to the full week at the beginning of April, which is another good reason to visit in April.

What’s the weather like in April?
The night temperatures can be still very cold and easily hovering around 1-3 C in March, 3-5 C in April and 5-8 C in May, but it does get warmer as the sun comes out.
At the beginning of April is usually very cold, but the ground is starting to warm up and whilst most plants and trees are still in a dormant state, it’s the first month, when it’s starting to get visibly warmer after usually cold winter weather.
April can be a bit of a funny month weather wise – expect anything from 10 C – 15 or 17 Celsius (in the shade) during the day, but close to 3-6 Celsius at night (or early evening).
On a bright sunny day, it will feel wonderfully warm, but once the sun goes it will go back to being fairly cold, especially at the beginning of the month.
Whilst it doesn’t always happen, it’s not uncommon to still have snow at Easter! April can also be very rainy and windy. On a cold day, the wind is also going to be cold, so I’d still suggest to plan some indoor activities, long coffee stops and visits to museums.

sunny days in April
In April, Prague usually has an average of about 6 to 7 sunny days. This means that roughly one-quarter of the month enjoys clear, sunny weather all day. The rest of the days are usually a mix of partly cloudy and overcast conditions, with some instances of rain, but also sun.
For example, you might have a week where 2 or 3 days are completely sunny, but other days might be a bit of a mixed bag of rain, sun and clouds. The average number of sunshine hours per day in April is around 5 to 6 hours, which is about 1/2 of the whole day light this month.

The average April temperatures
There is usually a big difference in temperatures at the beginning of April as opposed to the end of the month, meaning that the temperatures are going up as the weather is getting warmer.
The average high temperature ranges from about 12°C (54°F) at the beginning of April to around 16°C (61°F) by the end of the month. This might not sound like much, but when it’s 16 C in the shade it can easily be 20 C in the sun and feeling pleasantly warm.
The average low temperature typically ranges from about 3°C (37°F) early in the month to around 7°C (45°F) towards the end of April. This still means that once the sun goes down the temperatures drop quite significantly, so I always carry with me a spare layer if I’m staying out later at night.
All these temperatures are measured in the shade.

The gradual change in weather during April
Generally speaking, the weather is getting warmer and warmer as you progress through the April.
The difference between the beginning and the end of the month can be easily few degrees, which can mean that at the beginning of April you might still need to wear 2-3 layers with a light winter jacket, but by the end of the month you can get away with summer clothes with some extra light layers.
At the beginning of April, temperatures are generally still quite cool, often ranging from 3°C (37°F) at night to around 14°C (57°F) during the day. This period can feel brisk, and it’s not uncommon to experience a mix of sunny days and occasional rain showers. For example, you might wake up to a cold, crisp morning but enjoy a pleasantly warm afternoon with clear skies.
As the month progresses, temperatures gradually rise, and by the end of April, daytime highs can reach up to 16°C (60°F) or more. Nights remain cool but are less likely to dip below freezing.
This warming trend brings more consistent weather, with fewer abrupt changes. For instance, you may find that the second half of April is more predictable, with longer stretches of sunny days and fewer rain showers.
How to read the local weather forecast
The local weather forecast uses Celsius (not Fahrenheit) and the temperature given is measured (or predicted) in the shade. This means that if the weather forecast mentions 10 C, it can be easily 15 C in the sun and will feel fairly warm. This is good news, because whilst the weather forecast might look still cold (ish) on most days, if it’s sunny it will feel a lot warmer.

Rainy days in April
April can be quite rainy and when it rains it also gets quite cold. If the weather has been slightly colder and it’s getting windy and clouding over, the rain will be more persistent and perhaps slightly lighter. It will, however last much longer, so it’s wise to revise your plans for indoor activities or at least wear good sturdy shoes and pack a rain jacket or an umbrella.
We also get spring showers with a quick downpour of rain, after which the sun will come out again, so you really need to be prepared for everything!
The average monthly rain amount is only a moderate (in comparison with other months, such as May), specifically it is around 33mm to 35mm, which is spread over approximately 12 to 16 days of the month. This means that while rain is relatively frequent, it is usually light to moderate in intensity. For example, you might encounter several days with light showers rather than heavy downpours.

Day light during April
The daylight saving and time changes on 29 March 2026, so at the beginning of April we already have nearly 13 hours of day light.
At the beginning of April, the day light starts from 6.40 am and the sun set is around 7.30 pm. By the middle of April, this changes to day light appearing shortly after 6 am and the sunset is just before 8 pm.
By the end of the April, the sun rises at 5.40 am and the sunset is at 20.20 pm. This means that by the end of April you have just over 14,5 hrs of a day light to explore Prague!
If you want to capture some lovely photos (mostly without people) I’d recommend that you get to your location at least 60 minutes before the sunrise.
It’s also great to take photos during the blue hour, which is roughly during the 60 minutes after the sunset. Unfortunately, Prague starts to switch on street lights towards the end of blue hour, so it can be a bit tricky to get the timing right for taking light enough photos with the street lights switched on.

Prague’s nature in April: Finally the spring is here!
I thought I’d also mention, what you can expect in terms of nature, parks and the countryside. If the weather is cold in the winter, the plants and trees are only just waking up at the beginning of April. This means, that you will usually see the street trees, parks and gardens quite bare – no leaves, no flowers with maybe a few spring flowers that will start to come out early.
Things usually start to quickly change during the first week in April, when you get the first cherry trees and almond trees blossoming. Towards the middle and the end of April you get more fruit tree flowering, like apple trees. The trees will start to look more green by the middle of April.
The public parks usually have spring bulb borders, like tulips, daffodils and other early spring flowers and it’s lovely to see new green leaves on the trees.

Spring hay fever allergies in April
If you suffer from hay fever allergies, then spring in Prague can be challenging as most fruit and other trees flower during this season. When it’s cold, the early April can be still fairly fine, but as the weather gets warmer, more flowers, trees and grasses start to flower.
Prague parks and gardens are always well maintained, which means that the grass is regularly cut and the weeds taken out. This means that most parks and gardens, should be fine for you to visit if you suffer from mild hay fever caused by grass, but do be prepared to have an alternative plan in case there are flowering plants or trees that are too strong for you.
If you forget your hay fever medication, or need some, any pharmacy will be able to help you. Not all pharmacists speak English, but if you visit a large pharmacy like the one in the Main Train Station, they might have staff on duty who speak English. Most hay fever medication is also international, so you might recognise the type of medication you normally take.
In Czech hay fever is ‘senna ryma’, in case you need to make yourself understood in Czech.

What flowers in April in Prague and what to stay clear off if you have a hay fever
Birch Trees: Birch pollen is a significant allergen in April. Birch trees are widespread in Prague and their pollen can cause symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes
Pussy Willow: This is a type of willow that’s popular around Easter for decorating houses and making decorations and you can see it everywhere at the Easter Markets.
Hazel Trees: Hazel trees start shedding pollen from late winter to early spring, and their pollen can still be present in the air in April, contributing to hay fever symptoms
Alder Trees: Alder trees also release pollen in early spring, and their pollen can linger into April, causing allergic reactions in sensitive individuals .
Grasses: Some early-blooming grasses can start to release pollen in April. While grass pollen peaks later in the spring and summer, early varieties can still affect those with grass pollen allergies. Some parks, such as Stromovka keep areas that are ‘wild’, which means that the grass is not cut throught the growing season.
Other Trees: Other trees like chestnuts, oak and ash may also start to release pollen in April, adding to the mix of allergens in the air.

What to pack for your visit in April
I get always over excited with spring coming, pack very lightly and then regret it on the first cold morning!
This is especially true when I’m visiting in early April, when the temperatures can hover still around 5 C in the morning. Now I just take a light winter jacket and have 1-2 layers underneath. I still wear a hat and thin finger gloves and a scarf in the morning and late at night.
By the middle of April the weather does get noticeably warmer, so a spring jacket (shower or waterproof ) is best with some warm, but light layers and a thin hat or gloves as it can still be chilly in the morning and evening.
I also pack a sun hat, sunglasses, a few lighter layers and a dress for mid to end of April. Sunglasses are actually useful even in the early April as when we get a sunny day (even when it’s cold) the sun can be very strong.
Because I do a lot of walking in Prague (and in the countryside) I usually just stick to a pair of comfy trainers or comfortable town shoes as Prague’s cobbled streets can be quite hard to walk on.
I usually take a mid length spring jacket (not the warmest one I have) and then wear 2-3 layers underneath depending on the day. I’m also prepared to adjust my clothing during day, especially if it’s nice and warm (so having extra space in my bag or a crossbody bag is always useful).
I always dress for the cold in the morning, knowing that I can always take a layer off if the weather gets warmer.

Layers: April weather can be unpredictable, so packing layers is key. Bring a mix of t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and sweaters. For example, you can wear a t-shirt under a sweater and add a jacket if it gets colder. My favourite combination is light warm long t-shirt as a base layer and short sleeves T-shirt on the top.
Jacket: A light waterproof jacket is essential. It will keep you warm on chilly mornings and protect you from rain. I also pack a padded gilet to wear underneath or separately when it’s warm enough.
Comfortable Shoes: You’ll likely do a lot of walking, so pack comfortable walking shoes. Sneakers or sturdy flats are ideal for exploring the city’s cobblestone streets.
Jeans and Trousers: Bring a couple of pairs of jeans or trousers. These are versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on your plans for the day.
Accessories: Don’t forget a scarf and light gloves, especially for the early mornings and evenings, which can be quite cool. A hat and sunglasses are also useful for sunny days.
Umbrella: Since April can be rainy, a small, portable umbrella is a good idea to keep you dry during sudden showers.
Daypack: A small backpack or daypack is handy for carrying your essentials, like a water bottle, snacks, and any extra layers you might need to add or remove throughout the day. I also have a large cross body bag that fits everything I need (and it’s sometimes more practical in the town than backpack, that you constantly need to take off your shoulders).
Evening Wear: If you plan to dine out or attend theatre, pack a nice outfit. A smart casual look, such as a blouse with trousers (not necessarily jeans) or a casual dress, will work well.
