Letná Beer Garden is a popular outdoor place with scenic views of Prague and a laid-back atmosphere and affordable drinks that you can enjoy under the shade of chestnut trees.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a cold beer while taking in stunning views of the city, Letna Beer Garden in Prague is a must-visit destination. Located in Letna Park, this popular beer garden offers a unique combination of beautiful scenery, refreshing drinks, and a laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing with friends or family.
In this blog post, I want to take a closer look at what makes Letna Beer Garden such a special place and tempt you to add Letna Beer Garden to your must see places in Prague list during your visit.
Is letna beer garden worth visiting?
While opinions may vary, most of my friends (and me!) love the Letna Beer Garden because of the stunning views and relaxed atmosphere. I come here for the views, laid back atmosphere and affordable drinks, but not necessarily for the food or table service. Since this is a self-service beer garden, once you have your drink, you can sit around as long as you like and nobody fusses around you.
This is not a high-end establishment, so don’t expect glasses or a wide range of beer, food or drinks.
The beer garden has plenty of tables and benches spread below the shade of the tall trees overhead, creating a perfect spot for an afternoon picnic or leisurely evening drinks and there are always spare seats. One of the reasons that I like going to Letna is that it attracts a real mix of people.
Locals meet up for a drink after work; the evening city lights below serve as a romantic background for couples on a date and first-time tourists can easily get captivated by its special charm and wonderful views. The Old Town is beautiful but it’s choc-a-block with tourists doing the same rounds so it really is worth making your way up to Letna to admire the city and the contours of the river and its bridges from another perspective.
What beer and drinks can you get at the Letna beer garden?
The last time I visited the beer garden, the main two beers were Pilsen Urquell 12 and Kozel’s dark lager. You can also get cider, prosecco, soft drinks and coffee or tea. The stand also offers basic food snacks, such as grilled chicken, fried mozzarella, french fries, a chicken Caesar salad and a selection of sweet snacks.
If you fancy something more than a quick snack, you can eat at the Letna Chateau, which is the fancy-looking white house at the back of the beer garden. The restaurant offers modern fusion cuisine and the prices start from 100 CZK for soup, 265 CZK starters and 290 – 495 CZ for mains. Puddings are from 145 CZK. The beer offering inside the chateau restaurant is the same as at the bistro – Pilsen Urquell or dark Kozel beer.
Insider Tip
The beer garden only accepts cash and there are no regular bank ATMs on-site, so make sure you bring Czech currency. The newly installed ATM is the one that takes a hefty chunk of your money as a commission, so ideally, don’t use it.
Also, bring plenty of change as unless you are buying lots of drinks in one round, the staff are not going to be too happy if you give them a 2000 CZK note fresh from the cash point.
Although the kiosk might take Euros currency, they will only give back change in Czech currency. The exchange rate is not going to be in your favour, so just bring Czech currency with you.
Facilities
Toilets are available for use, and the opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
What is the view like from Letna Beer Garden overlooking the city?
The view from the Letna Beer Garden overlooking the city is really lovely. You get an amazing panoramic view of Prague’s skyline and the Vltava River.
The nearby top of the old cable car station has great views too (without the trees). If you want to, you can carry on walking (in any direction) to get more views of Prague. The viewpoint in front of the Hannau Pavilion has the most beautiful views of all bridges across the Vltava river.
How much does a pint of beer cost in the Letna Beer Garden?
The cost of beer, cider and all soft drinks is fairly moderate and definitely cheaper than in the centre of Prague. Beer starts from 27 CZK for 0.3 ltr or 42 for 0.5 ltr (just slightly under a pint). Cider is from 47 CZK (0.4 ltr). Soft drinks from 30 CZK and coffee or tea from 40 CZK
The garden bistro uses recyclable cups and the staff will ask you to pay 50 CZK per cup, which they will re-fund when you finish drinking. Just bring the cups back to the bistro and ask for a refund. If you just shake your head that you don’t want anything and hand them the empty cups, the staff will understand that you want your refund back. The staff speak English.
Please bring Czech coins and cash with you, as the bistro doesn’t take cards.
Opening Times
Letná Beer Garden has only outdoor space, which means that it opens in early spring (as soon as it starts to get warm) and then stays open until late autumn. Saying that, I’ve seen the little bistro open in the winter when it saved me many times with a hot chocolate to warm up my freezing fingers!
How to get to the Letna Beer Garden from the centre of Prague
The beer garden is a short walk (5-7 min) from the nearest tram stop at Letenske Namesti – trams number 12, 8, 25, 26, 1, 2, and 14. You can get number 12 from Ujezd (close to Petrin Cable Car), Malostranske Namesti (as you walk down from the Prague Castle) or Malostranska Underground station.
What else you can see & do around
- Explore the green paths of the Letna Park and the new lake at the Hannau Pavilion all the way to the Chotkovy Sady – Park – you can also walk all the way to Prague Castle from here.
- Walk towards the Metronome, where you can get more beer from the Stalin Bar and during summer time listen to music or watch films in the outdoor cinema
- Check out the amazing view of all main bridges over Vltava river from the viewpoint in front of the Hannau Pavilion and have delicious pancakes with coffee at the restaurant (also serves proper food!)
