My favourite top 26 pop-up outdoor and indoor ice-skating rinks in Prague for the winter season 2023/2024, including skates rental, refreshments, ice-skating lessons.
Ice-skating is super popular in the Czech Republic and most children learn how to skate at an early age – boys want to play for the Czech hockey teams and girls want to figure skate! When I was growing up I was lucky that we had a local ice-skating rink open every weekend and from autumn to spring I would be there every Saturday and Sunday.
I love to see that nowadays, each year there are many pop-up outdoor ice-skating rinks in Prague; often with a beautiful backdrop of old houses in the middle of Prague or green parks.
You can borrow ice-skates at the rink, so all you need to do is to just come along and be dressed appropriately (a few layers, gloves, hat, but not too warm as you’ll soon get warm skating around the ring).
The most central ice skating rink is in Wenceslas Square and along the Vltava river. The largest ice-skating outdoor rink is in Letna Park and Strizkov. Entrance tickets are usually free for children and moderate for adults and renting ice-skates start from 50-130 CZK.
The pop-up outdoor ice-skating rinks are open every day from December to January/February and the indoor ice rinks stay open well into the spring with Skoda Ice Rink being open all year round (usually just a few regular sessions at the weekends).
I’ve organised the list by the closest to the centre of Prague first, to make it easier for you to decide which ice-rink is the closest to the main tourist attractions. But I’ve also included the ice rinks slightly away from the centre as it might be closer to your hotel.
Insider tips for all ice rinks
- No need to pre-book – just turn up
- no need to bring skates – you can borrow skates at each rink plus helmet, ice-skating aids etc
- lockers are available at most rinks
- refreshments & heated areas are available at most rinks
- the outdoor ice-skating season runs from the beginning of November – mid-February, after that you can skate at the indoor rinks
- No need to have special clothes, but wear something you can easily move in and lighter layers as you get warmer skating. Always wear gloves even when it’s warmer as they protect your hands in case you fall.
- You can rent the whole ice-rink usually outside of regular public hours – prices start from 1400 – 2500 CZK per hour, which considering how expensive ice-skating is for example in London, is a great value if you are visiting Prague as a group or a large family. It’s a great for special occasion, party or just a chance to have the ice-rink all to yourself
- If you miss the outdoor ice rink season usually finishing in January/February, the indoor ice skating rinks are open until end of March or April.

Na Frantisku is an outdoor ice skating area located in the heart of historical Prague, next to the Vltava river and the St. Agnes Monastery (now an art gallery). This is more of a local ice skating ring than a tourist attraction, so you’ll see lots of school children during the day, who come here with their schools.
The ice rink is quite big (40 x 20 meters), so there is always plenty of space and you can find everything you need to go ice-skating here – warm changing rooms, lockers, ice skate rentals, ice skating aids and bar with hot drinks.

This is a cute little ice-rink set up on the boat! There is a nice view of the old houses at Smichov naplavka on one side and Vysehrad Castle Hill on the other. There is a little bar on the boat, skates hire option and seated area too.
I visited in the afternoon on Saturday and as you can see from the photo it wasn’t particularly busy. Because of its size, it’s the perfect ice ring for beginners and families with younger children. The boat is in the area where there are regular Prague farmers markets on Saturdays (which is how I came across this ice-rink) and during the festive season. You can also find more cafes and bars hidden in the river embankment and you can walk all the way to the Manes and the National Theatre next to the river.

The rink is open every day, but unlike the others, they run their ice-skating in sessions. It’s rather a small ice ring (20×10 metres) which is much less busy than other ice rings in Prague. When I visited mid-day on a week day, it was completely empty.
